Dogs Deserve Better is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing a better life for abused, neglected, and abandoned dogs, especially those living on chains or in confinement. We work to address the root problems of animal overpopulation, and to improve animal welfare by advocating for humane legislation, promoting spay and neuter programs, educating communities on animal welfare, and the rescue and rehabilitation of dogs in distress.
Meet Kay Kay, our adorable, loving Corgi mix who’s back in action and ready to start her new life. Kay Kay is a dog who loves people, and is devoted to family, even though family has failed her in the past. She was adopted from a rural shelter, then years later surrendered to a high […]
For such a young dog, Hodge has had an eventful life. He was rescued as an adolescent from a rural shelter that was being closed down, and all the dogs were at risk of being euthanized. Because Dogs Deserve Better (DDB) had previously rescued many dogs in this community, the shelter contacted us for help, […]
Our young, blue-eyed pit bull pup, Marley, went home this week. Her new family shared some adorable video of Marley with her new baby sister and pup companion, Chihiro. Marley is so sweet and respectful with this adorable little girl, and she’s still only a puppy herself. Pit Bulls were once nicknamed “nanny dogs” because […]

Back in August, Dogs Deserve Better rescued a senior dog, Mo, who had been living on a chain in isolation for nearly all of his ten years. This sweet dog had never been loved as part of a family, or given a proper diet or veterinary care. When our rescuers found him, Mo was covered […]
Chewy is a gorgeous young Shepherd-Husky mix, and a naturally social dog who is great with kids, other dogs, and cats too. At only eleven months old, he’s still filling out his 60 pound frame, but he is a handsome boy with striking bi-color eyes, a beautiful coat, and an athletic build. Chewy is a […]
Based on the title, you probably thought this article would be about a Labrador or Golden Retriever, but it’s about a group of dogs commonly referred to as “Pit Bulls,” and their fall from grace in our society. In honor of Pit Bull Awareness month, I want to share some information about these misunderstood dogs […]
